If you made it to the end of Horizon Forbidden West, you turned to your viewer and said, “I bet this is the end of this adventure. Every storyline seems to be neatly wrapped in a dinosaur-shaped robot bow,” then I’m sorry to tell you this, but Guerrilla Games just announced an expansion that won’t be coming to PS4.
In Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores, Aloy continues her quest to rid the futuristic world of the Infestation, though now her journey takes her to Los Angeles. I’m sure this isn’t just a way for the narrative team to work out some frustrations with Hollywood producers dragging their feet in making the seemingly inevitable Horizon Zero Dawn TV series.
You can see the revealed trailer below.
Details about the Horizon Forbidden West add-on are very scarce. According to the video’s description, in the new campaign, “Aloy pursues a sinister threat in the untamed wilderness of Los Angeles, now a treacherous volcanic archipelago.”
“It will travel to a dangerous new region south of the Clan Tenakth Lands, with a compelling storyline picking up where Horizon Forbidden West left off, new characters, adventures, and more,” says game director Mathijs de Jonge in PlayStation blog post.
“[LA is] an overgrown and cracked city that can be fully explored using water and flying on Sunwing’s back,” says de Jonge. “In its shadows lurks a formidable machine threat – a formidable challenge that Aloy must meet with all her skills and abilities. To realize this grand vision technically and creatively, we’ve made the difficult decision to focus all our efforts on creating an amazing experience exclusively for PlayStation 5.”
The only other detail, and let’s face it, is crucial that Horizon Forbidden West: Burning shores has a release date: April 19, 2023.
